Hi, we're Sersie and Gigi with Healthy for My Purpose. 

This FREE Health Fair is hosted by Emmanuel Baptist Church in Cleveland, Ohio in partnership with Strengthening Our Students, and Healthy Heart Nation.

This Health Fair aims to leverage lifestyle medicine concepts with Biblical principles to address health disparities in underrepresented communities. Join us!

About Sersie and Gigi.

Sersie Blue (left) is a health coach with a master's in divinity in counseling from Tyndale College and Seminary. Her passion is helping Christians connect their faith to healthy living. Sersie resides in Georgia with her family. 

Gigi Carter (right) is a certified nutritionist and certified lifestyle medicine professional through the American College of Lifestyle Medicine. She holds a master's in nutrition sciences from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She focuses on chronic disease prevention using plant-based nutrition education and lifestyle management concepts. Gigi resides in Washington with her family.

What is Lifestyle Medicine?

According to the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, lifestyle medicine is a medical specialty that uses therapeutic lifestyle interventions as a primary modality to treat chronic conditions including, but not limited to, cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, and obesity. 

Below are the six pillars of Lifestyle Medicine:

  • Nutrition: The evidence supports the use of a whole food, plant-predominant diet to prevent, treat and reverse chronic illness.

  • Physical Activity: Regular, consistent physical activity is an important part of overall health and resiliency. 

  • Stress Management: Managing negative stress can lessen anxiety, depression and immune dysfunction and leads to improved well-being.

  • Restorative Sleep: Improving sleep quality can improve attention span, mood, insulin resistance and can reduce hunger, sluggishness and more.

  • Social Connection: Positive social connections have beneficial effects on physical, mental and emotional health.

  • Avoidance of Risky Substances: Use of tobacco and excessive alcohol consumption have been shown to increase risk of chronic diseases and death.
